Oct. 2008 TIWC President's Speech

Dear TIWC members and friends,

After the joyful get-together and exciting drum-hitting experience last month, we are having our October General Meeting here.

As you may be already aware, today’s meeting features Thai food and Thai culture.  We are privileged to be able to invite Mrs. Arbhorn, Executive Director of Thailand Trade and Economic Office, as our honorary guest.

Now, let me report to you that our board has made a sitting policy so that members my have more chance to communicate with different members and new friends.  Each board member will be assigned to a table as the hostess.  This policy will be executed starting from our Nov. General Meeting.

The board is open to you for comments.  If you have any suggestions, please let us know.  Thank you.

Sept. 2008 TIWC President’s Speech

Distinguished Guest, TIWC sisters and friends,

 Good Morning!

Time flies.  Over 3 months have passed since we held the last general meeting on May 27 this year.  During this time, the new board completed several activities, such as the farewell party for Mrs. Mikiko Ikeda of the Japanese Representative Office and Mr. & Mrs. Early Yahya of the Indonesia Economic and Trade Office separately.

TIWC has a long history and is a well-organized group.  Every member has a roster, which is renewed every year.  Under TIWC, we have several subsidiaries, such as Dr. Lilian Chao Education Fund, Lily Chow Memorial Fund and Language Tea Groups.  We have In addition we also have a financially independent TIWC Educational Foundation and a closely related Lin Kun-Ti Jenchi Culture & Education Foundation.  TIWC has a constitution and bylaws, which stipulate member’s rights and obligations.  Some functions are out of date and need to be revised.  For revision, I shall assign a Constitution Revision Committee to accomplish this work.  Whoever is interested or wants to devote herself for this task, please register in writing by end of September.

In addition, to recruit new members is very important.  We welcome any woman, who is interested in the objective of the organization- friendship, education and charity.  Those who can communicate to our foreign members and friends are most welcome.

Now, I would like to report to you that the board has made the following decisions:

First, in order to make the meeting orderly, we invited Mr. George Wang to be our official photographer.  All the pictures will be posted on the website for members to download freely.  One piece of each photo will be printed for record and paid by TIWC.  Whoever needs addition prints, can sign up with Mr. Wang at a charge of NT$5 for each print.

Second, the board secretary, Imei Liu may move to the United States and cannot serve as secretary any longer.  The board has agreed to allow Amy Chang to replace her after receipt of her resignation letter.

Third, the yearly plan of 2008-2009 has been made up already.  Connie will report the details later.  Connie is also our Gala Dinner Chair.  She is in charge of all the programs this term.

As the current president, I’ll do my best in fulfilling my roles and duties.  Only your full support and enthusiastic participation can make TIWC’s activities successful.

 Thank you.
