TIWC Fundraising
One of the biggest objectives of TIWC is to promote philanthropy and public welfare. The Ways and Means member of the board has the responsibility to decide how money will be raised and used to support the different charities and education scholarships.
Many of the events chosen promote other organizations, local cultural and artistic groups in the community. Each event takes a great deal of time and effort in planning. Over the years these events have included International Bazaars, Carnivals, Movie Premieres, Gala Dinners, Raffle Drawings, White Elephant sales, and Chinese Operas.
The profits from these activities are used by the Social Services Committee to further the efforts of the Club to help the poor and the needy of Taipei. TIWC has also helped other areas on the island of Taiwan as well as earthquake victims around the world.
Fundraising for the Silver Anniversary, the 25th year of TIWC existence used the theme “Peace and Unity”. The first event took place on the 28th of September 1976. Each member was presented with a small Jade Apple, the Chinese symbol of Peace. A Silver Anniversary Ball was held on December 3, 1976, which included a dinner, a Cabaret night and dancing. A third activity of the Silver Anniversary was a Vegas Nite, held on Saturday, April 16th , 1977. Everyone got their chance on the blackjack tables and the roulette wheel. Profits from these three events plus a TIWC cookbook, extra jade apples membership fees and sales of TIWC charm made quite a contribution towards TIWC Education Foundation, established in 1976.
The Annual TIWC Christmas Bazaar held in Taipei is one of the largest in Taiwan. More than 100 venders come from all over the island to participate. Most foreign countries are represented and share their special holiday goodies. Santa always makes a presence. Special performers, choirs, and others participate. Close to NT$ 1 million was made this year in one day!
